HYADES team leaders recently completed a strategic visit to the United States, aimed at forging new collaborations with potential partners and securing key components for the mission’s scientific instrument. The trip included a series of high-level meetings with leading research institutions and industry partners across the country.

The first stop was Sensor Sciences LLC based at the San Francisco Bay Area, where the team met the company founder Oswald Siegmund and other key personnel to discuss our needs regarding the detector for HYADES. Following an in-depth technical discussion, the company confirmed its ability to provide the detector.

Next, we moved to the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) in the Los Angeles area, where the team explored future observational collaborations in support of the mission. Beyond the technical meetings, the visit also included inspiring moments. The team had the opportunity to see the historic Griffith Observatory, further immersing themselves in the rich legacy of California astronomy.

After completing the strategic goals on the West Coast, the team moved over to the central U.S., where they met Kevin France at the University of Colorado Boulder. Professor France kindly shared his invaluable experience in developing numerous CubeSat astronomical missions and offered support for HYADES.

Before leaving the U.S., the team visited the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center of the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum near Washington, D.C., where they saw the Space Shuttle Discovery – the very shuttle that deployed the Hubble Space Telescope into orbit. This moment carried special significance, as HYADES team members are the only scientists in Poland to have been awarded observation time on Hubble, highlighting their unique role in advancing Polish contribution to the space science.

This visit marks an important milestone in advancing HYADES construction, securing at the same time the availability of the most advanced technologies for groundbreaking space science.
