Team / Tomasz Kawalec
I am an assistant professor at the Department of Photonics, Faculty of Physics, Astronomy, and Applied Computer Science at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków.
My current research focuses on both the scientific and engineering aspects of the HYADES mission. I am also working on ultraprecise frequency measurements and near-field optics, particularly in the context of surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) and evanescent waves.
Previously, I was deeply involved in the field of optical cooling and trapping of neutral atoms, Bose-Einstein condensates, and optical lattices.
I am passionate about science popularization at all levels of education.
In addition, my interests include electronics, microcontrollers, modern radio communication, railways and model railroading, model rocketry, astrophotography, volleyball, hiking (especially in the Tatra Mountains), and cave exploration.
